Late-Breaking Program News Air Canada to Add First Checked Bag Fee on Flights to the U.S.
(Posted: Sep 3, 2011)

Air Canada has decided to match the checked baggage fee policies of U.S. carriers by adding a fee to check one bag on flights to the U.S.

Effective Oct. 11, 2011, Air Canada will start charging coach passengers $25 CAD to check a first bag on flights between Canada and the U.S. The cost to check a second bag is $35 CAD. Checking two bags one way will now cost $60 CAD total.

The new baggage fees will apply to tickets issued Sept. 7 for travel on or after Oct. 11, 2011.

For flights within Canada, passengers can continue to check one bag for free and pay $20 CAD to check a second bag.
