Late-Breaking Program News Frequent Flyer Auction to Benefit Kids
(Posted: Apr 15, 2005)

Itching to head south for spring break?? Planning a family reunion this summer?? Want to visit the Alps?? Beginning April 15, savvy travelers can spend time in great destinations while also benefiting abused children in resource poor regions of the world by participating in The Great Online Travel Auction for Kids.

The Kids First Fund, a U.S.-based not-for-profit organization, along with 11 airlines, 3 hotel chains, and an RV vacation company, will launch the online auction of tickets and vacations to destinations around the world including South America, South Africa, Europe, the Caribbean and destinations throughout the United States and Canada.

The Great Online Auction for Kids launches April 15, 2005 at 4 p.m. (CST) at the Kids First Fund auction site at eBay.com and closes April 28, 2005.? Visit the auction by clicking on the auction link at http://www.KidsFirstFund.org, or via eBay.com at http://members.ebay.com/aboutme/kidsfirstfund.?

More than one hundred airline tickets and hotel stays will be available with opening bids beginning at $1.? Participating airlines include:? ATA, AirTran Airways, Independence Air, LAN Airlines, jetBlue Airways, Midwest Airlines, Song, South African Airways, Sun Country Airlines, Swiss International Airlines and Virgin Atlantic Airways.? In addition, Hilton Hotels, Intercontinental Hotels and Xanterra Parks & Resorts have made accommodations at destinations throughout the U.S. available for auction, and Cruise America has provided a gift certificate valid at 15 motorhome rental locations in the USA and Canada.??

Airbus North America has donated a scale 1/100 model (over 2.5 foot wingspan) of its new A380 aircraft, the largest, most advanced, spacious and environment-friendly commercial airliner ever designed.? And eBay.com, the auction host, will donate their auction fees to the Kids First Fund.

?The Kids First Fund completed its first online travel auction in 2004,? explained board president Jay Sorensen.? ?Thanks to the generosity of our airline and hotel partners, we raised more than $30,000 to protect abused children in countries where resources are extremely limited.? We?re hopeful we can do even more in 2005.?

The funds from this year?s auction will be contributed to the $200,000 budget required to fund the development of Latvia's first family shelter.? The shelter will create a safe refuge for abused children and their mothers in the rural and impoverished Latgale region of Latvia.? The Kids First Fund is an all-volunteer non-profit organization with no administrative or fundraising costs.? Every dollar raised will directly benefit children.?
