Political Issues :: Taxation Issues - USA

Contact your representatives in Congress about miles taxation!

As time goes on, more and more taxation issues pertaining to frequent flyer mileage benefits continue to rear their [sometimes ugly] heads. PACFlyer strives to be your personal gateway to the "Washington situation room" on this subject. Below you'll find summaries and links to various reports outlining the timeline of bills presented to Congress and their current status. Be sure to visit this page often for further updates or new reports.

Taxation Reports

  • The tax bill passed in 1997 could seriously affect frequent flyer programs. Check out our special report, and send your comments directly to members of the House Ways and Means Committee, the Senate Finance Committee, or use the link below to find contact information for your local congressional representative.
  • One of the most topical subjects of frequent flyer miles is the possible IRS taxation of your miles. There is currently a bill in the House of Representatives (H.R. 3111) which seeks to prohibit the IRS from ever being able to tax your awards, no matter how your miles were earned (business or pleasure).

Visit the House of Representatives website to contact your representative about these and other taxation issues that affect your miles! Choose your state of residence to obtain contact information, and urge your representatives to avoid the taxation of miles and points.
