Let's start with Qatar, because the news is genuinely good. As of September 14, 2026, Qatar Airways Privilege Club appears to have removed the requirement that you earn Avios with them or fly an eligible flight before you can add someone to your My List or Family & Friends list. That means you can once again book award tickets for travel companions without first jumping through a qualifying-activity hoop. The lists themselves still exist—My List for people who already have a Qatar Privilege Club account, Family & Friends for those who don't—but the gatekeeping is gone. If you've got Avios sitting in your account, you can use them to book Qatar award seats for others right now.
On the Singapore Airlines side, the monthly Spontaneous Escapes promotion is back with 30% off award redemptions for travel between October 1 and October 31, 2026, and you have until September 30 to book. The discount applies to Business, Premium Economy, and Economy on Singapore Airlines, and to select Scoot routes. The real deals are on short-haul Scoot flights—think Singapore to Kuala Lumpur for 1,275 miles one-way, or Singapore to Langkawi for the same. The catch: there are blackout dates scattered through October, so check the full list before you commit. Note that these are KrisFlyer miles, not transferable to or from Qatar's Avios program, so your mile stash dictates which deal you can use.
If you have a mix of miles, here's the actionable part: for premium cabin long-haul awards, Qatar's restored flexibility makes it a strong play, especially if you're booking for a group. For cheap regional hops or a quick getaway in October, Singapore's Spontaneous Escapes are hard to beat—just be ready to book before September 30 and flexible on dates. Neither source settles whether these offers will be extended or repeated, so assume they're one-shot opportunities.
Bottom line
Qatar's restriction rollback makes it the best choice for booking award seats for others; Singapore's 30% off is ideal for cheap regional redemptions in October if you book by September 30.
