Marriott Rewards' Elite Members, Rejoice

In an era of declining benefits for elite program members, Marriott has opted to swim against the tide.
Marriott announced today the launch of several major enhancements to Marriott Rewards that are specifically designed to recognize the program's most loyal members.
The changes, effective June 2, contain one common thread: Cross-branding. Many benefits previously only offered at full-service Marriott properties will now be available at all Marriott brands, including Courtyard, SpringHill Suites, Fairfield Inn, Residence Inn and Towne Place Suites.
Without further ado, the changes:
Faster elite status -- Marriott Rewards members can earn Silver Elite status and benefits after spending just 10 nights per year -- a 50 percent reduction from the previous 15-night level.
Elite bonus points expanded to all brands -- Elite members will receive a 20 percent (Silver level), 25 percent (Gold level), or 30 percent (Platinum level) bonus on points for stays at all participating brands -- a benefit previously offered only at full-service Marriott, Renaissance and Marriott Vacation Club properties. Members are now eligible for the bonus at Courtyard, SpringHill Suites, Fairfield Inn, Residence Inn and Towne Place Suites, as well.
48-Hour guaranteed availability for Platinum members at all brands -- Platinum members will be able to make reservations up to 48 hours prior to arrival and be guaranteed a room at any participating hotel worldwide. Again, this benefit was previously offered only at Marriott's full-service brands.
Welcome gift for Platinum members at all brands -- Welcome refreshments will be delivered to Platinum members with every stay at all participating brands. Wine and cheese will be available at full-service hotels, and bottled water and gourmet cookies will be available at Courtyard, SpringHillSuites, Fairfield Inn, Residence Inn and TownePlace Suites locations (Not available at Marriott Vacation Club International).
Elite-only rewards -- Marriott is introducing new Elite-only rewards. They will be exclusive and include a variety of packages, destinations and savings. To kick-off this benefit, Rewards Elite members can redeem the popular Hawaiian Island Hopper award for fewer points. This award features a total of seven nights at three Marriott resorts located on Hawaii, Oahu, Maui or Kauai. Additional exclusive Elite-only rewards will be announced soon.
Next day, electronic awards -- All Marriott Rewards members can now request hotel stay awards just 24 hours before check-in to most participating hotels by calling (800) 450-4442 or visiting http://www.marriottrewards.com. Paper award certificates are no longer required (Some Fairfield Inn and SpringHill Suites hotels, as well as some hotels located outside of the United States do not yet offer this benefit).
Toll-Free guest services number just for Elite members.
Observers of the frequent traveler business will undoubtedly now be waiting for the proverbial other shoe to drop. Rarely in recent history has a company enhanced any portion of its program without cutting something else.
We're pleased to report that here again, Marriott is refusing to toe the line. These enhancements -- and note, they are not entirely exclusive to elite members -- come without strings attached.
