Continental Airlines has announced that it will double the number of first class seats offered on its Boeing 757-300 aircraft. The initiative is a result of high demand for first-class service as the fleet is expanded.
Larry Kellner, Continental?s chairman and chief executive officer, explained that the carrier is expanding its Boeing 757-300 fleet from nine to seventeen aircraft, and offering a larger first class cabin to accommodate demand created, in part by Continental?s complimentary upgrade program for OnePass Elite members
Continental?s Boeing 757-300 aircraft are currently equipped with 12 seats in the first class cabin and 210 in coach. With the seat reconfiguration, the aircraft will have 24 seats in first class and 192 in coach. The first of the reconfigured aircraft is scheduled to be completed this summer, with the remainder to be completed by early 2006.

I have tons of first hand experience with Continental''''s 737-500''''s.. SIX first class seats total. You have about a snowball''''s chance in hell of getting upgraded with only SIX first class seats.
They''''re upgrading in fall 2005 to EIGHT first class seats. Here we go again... I''''d hate to be that snowball.

Agreed. Continental flies the 737-500 on the 5-hour PHX-Newark flights with only 6 first class seats. Didn't know they were increasing the number to 8, but 12 would be more like it. Larry K, I hope you're reading this... America West's fares are always lower on that route and I'm tempted...

Continental is advertising "non-stop" flights from NYC to China(Bejing & Hong Kong...)with "1st" class. To use miles one has to spend "primo" miles for those seats and they can't even tell you if you might get a sleeper with a 180 recline, only the kind used in Bus-1st.

Like NWA, Continental's program favors the highest elites while the lower folks get diddley.
For example, I am Platinum on NWA and get upgraded 80% of the time to/from SNA on Mon/Fri (lots of competition for upgrades).

The 737-500 series is flown almost exclusively between Houston and Orange County, CA. The first class seating is a joke. Fellow Platinum Members, we are better off flying Southwest Airlines. The 500's are unbelievably uncomfortable in coach and not much better if you get that Lottery Like win and sit in First.
