Late-Breaking Program News Marriott Introduces No Blackout Dates and New Award Level
(Posted: Oct 21, 2008)

Several changes are coming to the Marriott Rewards program starting Jan. 15, 2009:

- Blackout dates will be eliminated. Every Marriott hotel will have standard rooms available for award redemption every day. This does not mean you are always guaranteed a room, but members will not have entire dates that are unavailable. Hotels can still limit the number of rooms available for redemption, but on a limited number of nights.

- Platinum Elite members bonuses will increase from 30 to 50 percent of the total points earned during their stay.

- When you redeem four nights, you'll get the fifth night free.

- A new Category 8 award level is being introduced at the cost of 40,000 points per night at the following properties:

Paris Marriott Hotel Champs Elysees
Renaissance Paris Vendome
JW Marriott Capri Tiberio Palace Resort & Spa
Rome Marriott Grand Hotel Flora
London Marriott Hotel County Hall
London Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square
London Marriott Hotel Marble Arch
London Marriott Hotel Park Lane
Le Merigot, A JW Marriott Beach Hotel & Spa, Santa Monica
Renaissance Chancery Court London
New York Marriott East Side
New York Marriott Marquis
Renaissance New York Hotel Times Square
South Beach Marriott Hotel

With this new award schedule and blackout date change, the Stay Anytime Awards are being eliminated. All changes take effect Jan. 15, 2009 and awards under these rules can be booked only from that date.

I just love how all of these devaluation schemes are always cloaked in language of "announcements." Give me a break. I discuss this at my blog page on this here: http://www.acouplethings.com/blog/2008/10/marriott-gets-rid-of-black-out-dates/
