Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan Partner British Airways Awards

Effective Dec. 1, 2008, Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan members will be charged a mandatory fuel surcharge fee, ranging between $460 to $532, on all flight awards redeemed on partner British Airways.
The fee is in addition to any other taxes and fees, such as the $15 fee for award reservations made over the phone and the $25 partner award fee (effective Nov. 1, 2008).
As of yet, British Airways is the only airline partner that requires a fuel surcharge. So if you want to redeem miles for a flight to Europe, you can redeem with another Alaska Airlines partner that will fly you across the pond for a lot less money, including Air France, KLM, American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines.

I wouldn't call British Airways a partner unless they can ofer the same as the other partners within reason.

What a joke! at least that's what I thought until I went to book a flight and they wanted nearly 100,000 air miles AND over $500 BEFORE taxes! That's just not funny. BA lost a LOT of business on this one. I'll gladly save hundreds of dollars and scores of thousands of miles simply by flying air france instead. One lost loyal customer, start counting now BA...
