This program was reviewed and rated by our editors in August 2007. Changes in the program past this date are possible, especially program partner information. We recommend you subscribe to the #1 source of frequent flyer information, Inside Flyer Magazine, to get the most current information possible.

The Sultanate of Oman, with its rich heritage and warm culture, is situated in the southeastern corner of the Arabian Peninsula. If you're familiar with Oman, when you see the Sindbad logo you should immediately recognize the Khanjar, a traditional Omani dagger and national symbol often worn and seen in Omani attire and culture. The logo also incorporates a wave to symbolize the seafaring history of Oman and Sindbad, the legendary Omani sailor who explored the seas in ancient times.

Exploring the skies in modern times, Oman Air began operations in 1993. It has witnessed rapid growth in the last 14 years and currently flies to over 18 destinations in the Gulf, Middle East and Indian Subcontinent. At present, Oman Air is expanding and making plans to enter the long-haul market.

Sindbad is a newcomer to frequent flyer programs, officially launching in February 2006 and the program currently has 20,000 members. In this short period, the program has gone through different phases and gained knowledge and experience. Prior to Sindbad, Oman Air participated as a joint partner in the Gulf Air frequent flyer program.

SERVICE SUPPORT:

Our
Rating:

Members can contact Sindbad by writing, calling and e-mailing customer support. We were unsuccessful in our attempts to contact customer service from the United States after business hours but have heard from Sindbad members that the best support is through calling the service center in Muscat; e-mails will not always be answered.

ONLINE SERVICES:

Our
Rating:

Potential members can enroll and access their accounts online but any changes to a member’s name or address must be sent in writing to the service center. Online award redemption is currently under construction and miles must be redeemed through the service center or a reservation office. Missing credit requests can be sent via e-mail. The mileage calculator is currently unavailable, but is a convenient feature when it’s available. Members can also download a pdf newsletter.

PLUS FEATURES:
The program is generous to all members, even those who are new to the program. Green membership is given to everyone and offers free baggage tags, extra baggage allowance and discounts; benefits that are normally reserved for higher tier members in other programs. The 2007 promotion that offers double status miles for business class travel is a valuable bonus that will allow members to reach Silver or Gold tiers faster than usual.

MINUS FEATURES:
Sindbad is just over a year old and still in its infancy. Partnerships are few but we trust that its list of partners will continue to grow, as stated in the program’s newsletter. The Web site is woefully inadequate. Missing information, including an award redemption chart and elite qualification information, is only found in the membership guide mailed to members. Online award redemption is not possible and members must call the customer service center to redeem miles for awards.
