We recommend you subscribe to the #1 source of frequent flyer information, Inside Flyer Magazine, to get the most current information possible.

85 and Counting! Finnair looks pretty good for being 85 years old. The airline currently provides service to over 120 worldwide destinations and is one of the world's oldest continuously operating airlines. In celebration of its anniversary, Finnair launched a Web site dedicated to the future of air travel. You can view possible future fleet designs and debate upcoming changes to the industry at http://www.departure2093.com.

Finnair Plus has around one million members and for a small program, it has a number of valuable partnerships and offers a wide array of redemption options. Members can redeem for hotel stays, car rentals and travel packages in addition to flight awards on a vast international network of destinations with oneworld member carriers.

Our
Rating:

The Finnair Plus Web site is clean and easy to navigate, but could benefit from more functionality. Members can search for flight awards within a seven-day booking window and make online reservations for flight awards on Finnair. For all other awards (including partner airline awards), members are required to fill out an online request form or call the service center. Junior Plus flight awards require a call to the service center.

Missing point requests for Finnair flights only can be made online. To request missing points for partners, members will need to contact the Finnair Plus service center. Members report that it can take several weeks for points earned from flying Finnair to post.

PLUS FEATURES:
Children under the age of 17 receive a 50 percent discount on award tickets and can redeem points for items geared to a younger crowd, benefits that will appeal both to parents and their children. The lowest level Silver elite members receive complimentary access to Finnair lounges and elite status can be attained with flight segments flown in all booking classes.

^top
MINUS FEATURES:
Members cannot book fight awards for anyone, only family and household members, which restricts the flexibility of giving award tickets away as gifts. Features commonly found on other airlines' Web sites, such as booking partner awards online, are missing from Finnair Plus, and you have only six months in which to claim missing flight credit. Many coach fares earn only 50 percent of the kilometers flown. Elite members do not receive flight bonuses with their elite status and requirements for achieving elite status are higher than with other oneworld airlines.
