Rated: October 2010- The home page of Sol Melia MAS Rewards prominently displays rotating photos highlighting four current special offers from the loyalty program. Just left of these offers is the log in section, or a quick link to register for the program.

When joining the program, you can choose from several languages including French, German, Italian, American or British English, Portuguese, Brasileiro, Latino and Spanish. There is also an area for new members to give the name and MAS Rewards number of someone who has recommended the program to them (the referrer will get 500 miles for referring the program to you after your first stay at a Sol Melia hotel). To join you must accept the terms and conditions, and when doing so, you are also agreeing to receive emails on special offers and agreeing to the program's privacy policy. To opt out of getting the emails, you would need to directly contact Sol Melia. Most members would elect to receive emails, but if you wish not to get the emails, it would be unnecessarily cumbersome to get your email off the list.

Once you are logged in as a member, you will see several tabs that make it easy to navigate to the information that members need to access such as My Profile, My points, My bookings and Book with my points.

When clicking the My points tab, we're pleased to see that 1,500 points are already deposited into our account as a welcome bonus and there is a quick link directly to transferring points; however, members cannot transfer their welcome bonus points.

The My profile tab includes pages for members to input information about their preferences including pillow type from eight different types of pillows, preferred floor (low, medium or high) and even your choice from an "aroma menu" that includes such options as "cinnamon and orange," "pachuli and ambar" or "vanilla and sandolo," among six choices.

Along with the tabs mentioned above, the home page features an area where members can quickly access basic information such as how to earn and spend points and how to transfer points. You can click through to a Special requests page when you need to claim missing credit. There is also a Partners MAS link that directs members to information about program partners. This page is obviously one left over from an earlier version of the site because it has a completely different look to it and is in dire need of updating. Some partners have links to other pages, but most don't, and the information is not complete. For example, the site lists American AAdvantage as a partner, but does not state how many miles AAdvantage members receive when staying at a Sol Melia hotel and there is no link to further information.

Other than the total misstep with the partners page, the overall impression of the site is a positive one. We especially like the way your name, membership number and amount of points you have in your account are displayed prominently on the top of the pages when you are logged in--a nice, quick reference of your account.
