(Program Reviews - Side by Side Comparison - Website Reviews)
Rated: May 2012- With purple and magenta tabs and a sunny sandy beach scene as the backdrop, the Hawaiian Airlines HawaiianMiles website inspires visitors to come to Hawaii. Not that most people need visual encouragement. One way to get there is with miles and HawaiianMiles highlights all of the ways to earn and redeem miles on their home page. There are links to how to earn miles while shopping, how to find award tickets and how to purchase and share miles. On the left side of the page is an online booking box where you can search for flights, but you can't search for flight awards here. You must first log in to your HawaiianMiles account before you can look for award tickets. After logging in, you can view fares in dollars or miles. You can also click on the month tab to view the lowest award redemptions for a month at a time. All the months are listed at the top of the results page so you can quickly search other months to find dates that have awards available at the lowest mileage amounts. Awards may be viewed up to 330 days out. For flights on partner airlines, you'll need to call the service center.
The main navigation menu is located to the left of the page, where you'll find links to join now, how it works, earn miles, use miles, airline partners, partner offers and HawaiianMiles specials. There are additional links at the top of the page that aren't specifically about the HawaiianMiles programs. Here you'll find links to help, contact us, optional fees and a dropdown menu of quick links that will bring up an array of choices so you can easily navigate to another part of the website. The fees section is noteworthy and includes a comprehensive list of all of Hawaiian's fees, including baggage fees, ticketing fees, change fees for paid and award flights, standby fees, etc. Hawaiian Airlines has compiled all of their fees and made them easy to find. We wish every website would have a similar feature.
HawaiianMiles has many mileage-earning partners. To make it easier to find partners, HawaiianMiles has links where you can search by category, partner name and location. Many partners are located only in Hawaii so if you search for partners in the Continental U.S., you'll only find a handful in Arizona, Nevada, California and Texas, in addition to nationwide retailers, such as Buca di Beppo and Samsonite.
The FAQ list, located within the how it works section, only answers 11 questions. We can think of more than 11 questions that members frequently have about their FFP that could be included here, such as how do I change my award ticket?
The HawaiianMiles site is functional and members can request missing flight credit for Hawaiian Airlines flights online. We also like that HawaiianMiles lists all of the different mileage-earning promotions available under one tab, HawaiianMiles specials. It's slightly annoying to have to log in before searching for flight awards but not unheard of. Other programs also require this, but they are in the minority.
