Rated: August 2013- Award Mapper is a new online tool developed for members of hotel loyalty programs to quickly see the redemption amounts for hotel award stays throughout the world. The man behind the website said, “I built it because I got sick of opening so many browser tabs to perform this kind of search.”

The site is currently in beta but is fully functional for travelers ready to give it a try. Six major hotel loyalty programs are featured on the site: Club Carlson, Hilton HHonors, Hyatt Gold Passport, IHG Rewards, Marriott Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest. Each hotel group is color coded, red for Marriott, green for Hyatt and so on.

Searching for hotels in your chosen destination is easy. Simply enter the name of your destination in the field provided at the top right of the page. We input Lisbon, Portugal, and were presented with a map of the city with markers indicating hotels where you can spend your points. Choices included Radisson Blu Hotel Lisbon (Category 4, 38,000 Club Carlson points); four IHG Holiday Inn or Holiday Inn Express properties (Category 1 to 2, 10,000 to 15,000 IHG Rewards points); two Marriott properties including Lisbon Marriott Hotel (Category 5, 20,000 to 25,000 Marriott Rewards points) and AC Hotel Lisboa (Category 3, 10,000 to 15,000 Marriott Rewards points) and Starwood’s Sheraton Lisboa Hotel & Spa (Category 4, 10,000 SPG points).

If you click on the listings for any of the hotels displayed, a new browser window will be opened to that hotel’s web page where you can learn more about the property and book a stay. You can also access a hotel’s website page by clicking on the color-coded symbols on the Google map. The Google map functions as you’d expect, so it makes it easy to see the landmarks and transit options near the hotels you are considering.

If you would prefer to limit your search to certain hotel programs, or amount of points, that is also easy to do. You would simply click the color-coded stars beside the names of the hotel programs that you do not wish to see (they will no longer be selected) and use the slider tool that will show hotels in the points range you decide between zero and 95,000 points (the default amount is 5,000 points to 60,000 points).

The site is not perfect and the developer is still refining the process. We suggest you dig deeper once you get an idea of the hotels available for your destination. For example, Choice Hotels does indeed have only one option to stay in Lisbon, but as a Choice Privileges member for the date we searched, you have the option of a Standard award for 28,000 points, Premium award for 42,000 points or a Points+Cash award of 5,000 points plus 51 euros. Award Mapper does not display all of your award options. This site is a good start for a great idea to make life easier when you’re planning your next trip.
